Past Assistants
Shaza Afifi
Shaza Afifi (class of 2022) is a student at GU-Q majoring in Culture and Politics. She worked as a Publications Assistant at CIRS, where she edited Arabic publications and academic papers, and managed Arabic online content. She also helped the research fellows by translating Arabic content needed for their research. Her interests revolve around sociology and culture studies in the Arab world.
Chaïmaa Benkermi
Chaïmaa Benkermi (class of 2021) is a student at GU-Q majoring in International Politics. She worked as a Publications Assistant at CIRS, where she edited publications, assisted with research projects, and managed online content. Her interests revolve around the study of the colonial era, its repercussions in today’s politics, and its social manifestations. She took part in the “Zones of Conflict/Zones of Peace” trip to Bilbao, Spain, where she studied conflict resolution and victim recognition in the Basque Country. She is President of the Annual Undergraduate Research Conference (AURC), Vice-President of the Georgetown Charity Week team (sponsored by EAA), GU-Q Ambassador to I AM QF 2020, and co-founder of the Social Justice and Development (SJD) club. Chaïmaa was also the French Tutor for the Office of Academic Services (OAS).
Younis Al-Agha
Younis Al-Agha (class of 2022) is a student at GU-Q and is majoring in International Politics. He was a Publications Assistant at CIRS, where he edited publications and was in charge of transliteration. His interests revolve around political theory and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He is also Captain of the Georgetown football team.
Asma Al-Adawi
Asma Al-Adawi was a member of the inaugural class of GU-Q and graduated in 2009. She majored in International Politics and was one of the first CIRS student assistants. She co-founded HELP, a student-led initiative that focuses on the educational enrichment of service providers at GU-Q. Asma is currently working as a Corporate Social Responsibility Specialist at Bunduq Oil Producing Company. Al-Adawi worked at CIRS from 2008 to 2009.
Mohammed Al-Jaberi
Mohammed Al-Jaberi graduated with joint degrees in B.S. in Foreign Service and M.A. in Arab Studies from Georgetown University as a member of the class of 2019. He is currently working on his honors thesis on the role of local governance in stability and development in war-torn Yemen. His research interests revolve around development, state building and political Islam. In addition to his role at CIRS, Mohammed has interned at Teach for Qatar, the United States Embassy in Doha, and Qatar Foundation. Al-Jaberi worked at CIRS from 2015 to 2019.
Hazim Ali
Hazim Ali graduated from Georgetown University in Qatar as a member of the class of 2016. As a student, he gained professional experience by interning as a Corporate Communications Intern at Siemens. After completing his undergraduate degree, Hazim pursued a master’s degree in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. He currently works as senior writer at Qatar Foundation. Hazim worked at CIRS from 2015 to 2016.
Nermana Babi
Nermana Babi graduated from GU-Q as a member of the class of 2011. At CIRS, she helped with editing, formatting, and designing of various CIRS publications. While at GU-Q Nermana participated in the Zones of Conflict/Zones of Peace trip to Germany and Poland where she conducted research on the Holocaust, its subsequent memorialization, and efforts at facilitating unity and justice. Babi wokred at CIRS from 2012 to 2013.
Hala Eid
Hala Eid graduated from GU-Q as a member of the class of 2019 with a major in International Politics and a Certificate of Arab and Regional Studies. She currently works as an Admissions Recruiter in the Office of Admissions at Georgetown University in Qatar. Eid worked as a Publications Assistant at the Center for International and Regional Studies at GU-Q. Her research interests revolve around Political Theory and Political Psychology.
Arwa Elsanosi
Arwa Elsanosi graduated from GU-Q as a member of the class of 2014. At GU-Q, Arwa actively participated in student-led clubs and organizations including the Debate Team, Model United Nations Club, and the Breast Cancer Awareness initiative. She currently works as a Protection Associate with UNHCR in Khartoum, Sudan. Elsanosi worked at CIRS from 2012 to 2014.
Donia Hashem
Donia Hashem graduated from GU-Q as a member of the class of 2012. She joined Silatech as a Program Officer in the Employability and Small and Medium Enterprises Business units. While there, her work propelled the launch of Aspire Women, Qatar’s first women-centric entrepreneurship and mentorship program. In 2016, she completed a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Toronto, during which time she served as a Policy Intern in Ontario’s Cabinet Office. She is now pursuing a Juris Doctor at Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, Canada, and will be joining one of Canada’s leading business law firms; McMillan LLP. Donia received the Samuel Rubinoff Award for the Most Outstanding Research Paper in Legal Research and Writing. Under the guidance of two of her law professors, she is currently in the process of publishing her first academic paper on the topic of refugee laws and policies in the Middle East. Donia worked at CIRS from 2010 to 2012.
Salman Ahad Khan
Salman Ahad Khan graduated from GU-Q as a member of the class of 2016 with a major in International Politics. He is interested in graphic design, filmmaking, and field hockey. Salman’s academic interests include migrant labor issues in the Gulf and in the United States, government, and politics. He currently works as an English Content Development Specialist at Qatar Foundation. Salman worked at CIRS from 2012 to 2016.
Jibin Koshy
Jibin graduated from GU-Q as a member of class of 2012 with a major in International Politics. As an undergraduate student, he was an active member of the student body and the larger Education City community. After graduation, he worked for different organizations including Silatech and Qatar Airways. Currently, Jibin serves as the Educational Enrichment Manager at GU-Q. Jibin worked at CIRS from 2010 to 2011.
Khansa Maria
Khansa Maria (class of 2021) is a student at GU-Q majoring in International Politics. She works at CIRS as a publications/projects assistant and has written articles for the CIRS website. Khansa is originally from Pakistan and she is very passionate about advocating for disability rights and women’s empowerment.
Badr Rahimah
Badr Rahima graduated from Georgetown University in Qatar as a member of the class of 2015 and works in the Office of Academic Services (OAS) at GU-Q. He published his first academic article on the Syrian Civil War under the title, “The Class Oriented Rationale,” in which he explored the socioeconomic roots of the conflict in Syria and their relation to sectarianism. Badr holds an MS in Culture and Society from the London School of Economics. His master’s dissertation, “The Fear Oriented Rationale: Interaction between Class and Cultural Groups in Syria,” studied the role of fear in a culture that governs daily behavior of Syrians inside and outside of Syria. Badr worked at CIRS from 2014 to 2015.
Mona Saif
Mona Saif (class of 2021) worked as an Arabic language Publications Assistant. She helped with the translation process of CIRS publications including summary reports and website content. Mona is an activist passionate about humanitarian law and intercultural understanding. Mona worked at CIRS from 2017 to 2018.
Waleed Zahoor Khan
Waleed Zahoor graduated from Georgetown University in Qatar as a member of the class of 2018 with a major in International Politics. He worked as a Publications Assistant at CIRS, where he participated in designing, editing, and formatting of various CIRS publications. Waleed also worked as a research assistant on different projects and he interned for organizations including Brookings Doha Center and Teneo Blue Rubicon. Zahoor worked at CIRS from 2016 to 2018.
Gabriella Zoia
Gabriella Zoia graduated from GU-Q as a member of the class of 2013. After completing her undergraduate degree, she went on to gain a master’s degree in International Relations from Tufts University. She currently works as a Customer Operations Analyst at Recorded Future. Zoia worked at CIRS from 2012 to 2013.
