Swedish Delegation Visits CIRS

A high-level delegation from Sweden, led by the Swedish Minister of Higher Education, HE Helene Hellmark Knutsson, visited the campus of Georgetown University-Qatar and its Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS). During the visit, Dean Gerd Nonneman discussed the overall state of higher eduction with the delegation and briefed them on the operation of Georgetown campus in Doha and the reasons for Georgetown’s foray into the Middle East back in 2005. CIRS Director Mehran Kamrava discussed the outlines of CIRS’s operations and the focus of its research, including some of the areas in which CIRS has broken new and original ground in the studies such as those of migrant labor, food security, weak states, and Arab migrant communities.
