CIRS Undergraduate Research Advancement (CURA)
The CIRS Undergraduate Research Advancement program facilitates research experiences for Georgetown University in Qatar undergraduate students.
The CIRS Undergraduate Research Advancement program facilitates research experiences for Georgetown University in Qatar undergraduate students. CURA initiatives aim to enhance students’ research capacity through skills-development workshops, discussion seminars, peer-to-peer learning mechanisms, and focused mentorship. CURA also provides opportunities for students to present their original research publicly, and to submit research papers for publishing the CURA Paper Series.
CURA programs will assist undergraduates in:
- Preparing for an undergraduate research experience
- Identifying and defining research goals
- Developing a range of research skills
- Presenting their research findings
- Publishing their original research
DINNER AND SAWALEF
On August 24, 2023, 60 GU-Q students gathered at Aloosh Iraqi Restaurant and experienced a live masquf cooking demonstration, traditional Iraqi cuisine, and learnt about Iraqi culture and society pre/post-invasion with Professor Seerwan Hariry, Professor Firat Oruc, and Professor Hana Zabarah.
CIRS Open House
On August 21, 2023, the Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS) held an open house for GU-Q students, faculty, and staff to learn more about CIRS, the CIRS Undergraduate Research Advancement (CURA) program, and how they can be involved in the Center’s work. Over 70 attendees met CIRS staff members and listened to a presentation by Elizabeth Wanucha, CIRS Operations Manager.
