“Qatar’s World Cup Goals,” CIRS Summary Report no. 30 (2025)

Continuing under the intellectual guidance of GU-Q Visiting Associate Professor Danyel Reiche, this project was developed to further CIRS’s previous research on “Building a Legacy: Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022.” This iteration of the project is titled “Qatar’s World Cup Goals,” and examines the role that the FIFA World Cup 2022 played in enabling the small yet affluent Arabian Peninsula state of Qatar to move from the periphery of global sports and politics towards a prominent and central position. This CIRS Summary Report contains synopses of articles that appear in “Qatar’s World Cup Goals,” guest ed., Danyel Reiche, CIRS special issue of the Journal of Arabian Studies 13, no. 1 (2023).
