Afghanistan Regional Symposium: Confronting the Impasse

Fatima Gailani

Fatima Gailani is ​​a women’s rights activist  and a political leader of Afghanistan. Gailani previously served as the president of the Afghan Red Crescent Society and is currently a board member. She started her career seeking peace and prosperity for Afghanistan at the age of 26. She became the spokesman for the Afghan Resistance to the former Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. Gailani was recognized as one of the BBC’s 100 women of 2021. She was a senior negotiator at the 2020-21 Afghan peace talks held in Qatar.
